The key area of No. 10’s success has been the introduction to Bridport of Hofbräu Bier from Munich. Hall and Woodhouse Brewery have brewed the beers under license in Blandford since 1987. Hall and Woodhouse, themselves established since 1777, are the sole brewers of these beers in the UK. The process involves brewing plant imported from Munich and even the yeast cultures used are imported weekly from the Bavarian brewery. Hofbräu Bier itself has been enjoyed in Bavaria for over 400 years and was originally the brew enjoyed solely in the Royal Court or “Hof.” The closely guarded heritage of this beer is encapsulated in the “Rheinheitsgebot”, the purity law of 1567, which decreed that the only ingredients of these beers should be water, barley, yeast and hops. The beers are brewed in this way to this day, which ensures that they are as excellent now as they were in the Bavarian Court of four centuries ago.

At No.10 you have the opportunity to sample three of the Hofbräu Lagers. Hofbräu Premium is brewed to the original Munich recipe and at 5% ABV is a quality draught beer of unique and distinguished character. Hofbräu Export is a fresh tasting malty draught beer brewed to the same purity as Premium but with an ABV of 4.3%. Hofbräu Weissbier at 5.1% ABV is a premium bottled wheat beer with a wonderful refreshing taste which once acquired is difficult to forget. The brewery pedigree dates back to the same period as the Rheinheitsgebot of 1567 from which time the Bavarian Royal family held a monopoly over Weissbier production until the mid 19 th century. For beer drinkers there is only pleasure in trying these classic lagers.
